Death, Taxes, and Really Hideous Traffic Jams.

May nobody in the U.S. complain about traffic construction ever again. These are the two main roads in Phuket, and a normal part of my (and pretty much everyone’s) journeys. They’re always, always packed.

Starting Sunday, they’re closing the intersection to through traffic on one street, and diverting all that traffic about a mile up the perpendicular street, having everyone do a U-Turn, then come back down and turn back on the street they were on.

For three months.

There’s a thing here called mai pen rai, a way of life that says among many things, eh, don’t stress the stuff you can’t change. (It’s such an important phrase it’ll actually get its own post, soon.)

But for now, I actually look forward to some crazy traffic. I’m betting this intersection ends up being a pretty lovely illustration.
