Chiang Mai Visa Run to Myanmar: Pretty Easy.
I sort of expected this to turn into one of those thrilling, I-can't-believe-this-worked-out-ok sorts of stories.
But it wasn't. I booked online a few days ahead. Then, day-of, I got up at 7, a reasonably comfortable van picked me up, we drove 4 hours of not-terrifying and very pretty driving up to Myanmar. Quick turn around on the border, a couple of forms, and a drive back home. Total cost: about 25 USD and 8 hours.
In fact, the only notable things from the day were acquiring massive avocados (hooray!), some mangosteen wafers (delicious!) and one funny exchange.
Man in Myanmar passport control office, pulled aside because of trouble with his paperwork, while also on the phone with someone who doesn't speak English:
"I'll be right there" ... "I'll ... be... right... there" ... "I be there soon" ... "I come soon" ... and then finally, trying a different tack, a promise:
"In one minute I be there"
At which every Customs Officer burst into uncontrolled laughter.
