Last summer, in a tiny apartment in Paris, I ran face-first into the realization that I wasn't a better person than I'd been two years earlier.
I was less empathetic. Less interested and interesting. Less curious, less alive, and less connected to the things I really cared about. That realization stung.
But after the sting wore off, I realized that there was only one thing to do about it. Fix it - and make sure it never happened again.
So, over the rest of 2018, I got things in order, and bought a one-way ticket out of the country - and on January 1st, headed off into the Year of Awesome.
I've always been a person who took on big goals - ones that scare me. The kind that make my palms sweat and my and pupils dialate and my heart sing. So I've laid out some big ones for 2019, and I invite you to come along for the journey (and maybe make your own Year of Awesome along the way.)
Here's what I'll be doing to make myself and the world a bit better:
If this sounds like your kind of adventure, I'd love to have you along. I send out a weekly email, and post regular videos on youtube.
Below, you can find some of the highlights.
I land in Buenos Aires the first week of January, and will find out very quickly how rusty the Spanish I haven't spoken in three years is. And how I'll survive in one of the world's meatiest cities as a vegetarian. Wish me luck!
I have this [great exercise] to find your values that I do with my coaching clients (and myself, every year). But it's a bit of a pain to print out 100 cards, and cut them all out. So, I'm building an app to make it easy. :)
Since I'm also properly starting my Youtube channel in all of this, I really need to have some skill with video production. So, this month, I'm going to level up my video-making skills from zero to hopefully entirelly suck.
Thanks to Bill Gates for this recommendation - Hans Rosling's Factfulness is a book that all of us should be reading - about how we keep getting the basic facts about the world wrong, and what we can do about it.
